The Blues

Late 19th century untl 1930

There are two different styles of the Blues. The have many similarities, and also many differences.

Country Blues
--------------
          Country Blues were the earliest types of the Blues. Mostly only men preformed country Blues, and many traveled through different communities playing the Gutair, and singing about the "loss of love , the pain of poverty, or the burden of hard work*" Or mostly negative things. Some famous Country Blues Musicians were Robert Johnson, who was famous for supposdly selling his soul to the devil in order to play the Blues better, Blind Lemon Jefferson, and Jelly Roll Morton. W.C. Handy also a musician that was one of the first people to compose Blues and put it as sheet music.

City Blues
----------
         City Blues was almost the opposite of Country Blues, were it's main musicians were female. After WWI, City Blues stimulated the recording industry, and City Blues flourished over the course of the 1920's. Many singers were accompanied by piano and other instruments. Many City Blues musicians used improvosation. Musicians such as Mamie Smith who produced the first blues recording in 1920, and Bessie Smith started to sing City Blues. The blues was a very popular music to dance to, and many did.  After the 1930's, most Blues singers and instrumentalist were divided
